Dedication

In any educational system, the quality of the administration is directly proportional to the performance of the
tudents and teachers. Thus, we here at Stoneham High have been lucky to call Dr. William Hoyt our head
dministrator for many of the past years. Over the years. Dr. Hoyt has dealt with his share of crisis and
ontroversies, and has been forced to deal with difficult dilemmas rarely faced by officials in his position. Yet,
irough it all. Bill Hoyt has always been accessible and easy to talk to. Never stand-offish or isolated, many a
me a student could voice an opinion just when he/she saw Dr. Hoyt in the hall. Dr. Hoyt has never forgotten
is roots as an educator: a classroom teacher. Dr. Hoyt has kept this with him always, and has never been anything
'lit courteous and open to any ideas or thoughts that a parent or student might have. It is for these reasons, and
Iso due to the fact that Dr. Hoyt will leave us for retirement after the 1994-95 school year, that we dedicate the
glass of 1995 Yearbook to our most esteemed Superintendent of Schools, Dr. William Hoyt. Bill Hoyt may be
etired from the system, but he'll certainly never be retired from our thoughts. We all wish Dr. Hoyt the happiests
>f retirements, as we're quite sure he'll be missed by all those who have ever had the good fortune to work with
iim. His was a reputable career, and one which he feels
s best summed up by the poem below.

On Going Unnoticed

\s vain to raise a voice as a sigh
n the tumult of free leaves on high.

What are you in the shadow of trees
Engaged up there with the light and breeze?

Less than the coral -root you know
That is content with the daylight low,

And  has  no  leaves  at  all  of  its  own;

Whose spotted flowers hang meanly down.

You grasp the bark by a rugged pleat.

And look up small from the forest's feet.
The only leaf it drops goes wide.

Your name not written on either side.

You linger your little hour and are gone.
And still the woods sweep leafily on.

Not even missing the coral-root flower
You took as a trophy of the hour.

-Robert Frost

Four All Seasons

Through the changing of the seasons, the maturing of the earth, and the enduring cycle of life, wehave
carried on, through four years of High School. We ourselves have grown and matured, rooted firmly
like the tree, through all seasons. First as freshmen, in the Spring of our new beginnings, young and
hopeful, we began our growth while facing a myriad of new experiences. As sophomores in Summer,
we moved forward in a whirlwind of carefree and energetic actions, finding ourselves and our niches
i)i school. Juniors in Autumn, preparing for the year to come, we struggled to understand this year
which we were in. Through this season, anticipation mounted as we approached the Winter, the
climax of our High School careers. And so Winter arrives, and as Seniors, we look back with the
wisdom of four years. We look ahead with the full knowledge that there's a world still to come. We
look through the gateway of graduation at the inspiring new beginnings which lay ahead, and look
back upon four years of High School, upon all four seasons.

The Oak

Live thy Life,
Young and old.
Like von oak,
Bright in spring,
Living  gold;

Summer- rich
Then; and then
Autumn-changed,
Soberer-hued
Gold again.

All his leaves

Fall’n at length,
Look, he stands,
Trunk and bough,
Naked strength.

Summer o£J994

’’What wond’rous life is this I lead!
Ripe  apples  drop  about  my  head;
The luscious clusters of the vine
Upon  my  mouth  do  crush  their  wine;

The nectarine and curious peach
Into  my  hands  themselves  do  reach;
Stumbling on melons as I pass,
Ensnared with flowers, I fall on grass.”

October  gave  a party;

The leaves by hundreds came-
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.

The Sunshine spread a carpet,

And everything was grand.

Town Day of 1994

Another Town Day came and went this year, and the Gods looked
down upon our Senior Class with favor by holding off the rain. It
was a gorgeous day to get your face painted, your hair braided, and
get your yearly fix of fried dough and Italian sausage. Food was
abundant, as were the crafts you could purchase and the martial arts
you could watch. Bigger than ever, this year's Town Day reached
new levels of glitz and prominence. The largest Town Day crowd
ever helped to turn the day into a fundraising success for almost every
group involved, including the beloved Yearbook table. All in all, it
was a wonderful Town Day to remember as our last.

Do I amuse you??

The Senior Class Play:

Our Town

Once again this year, the Senior Class Play was a great success. Lead by the
visionary Beth Zieff, the cast had no problem taking on the challenging roles and
difficult scenery. Starring in the play were seniors Dennis D'Angelo as the Stage
Manager, Laura Krakow as an impressive Emily Webb. Brant Berglund as George
Gibbs, and Marei Iovanni as Mrs. Gibbs. Others seniors included Rachel Werlin,
Julie Fratarcangeli, Kim Silvia, and Renee Doucette. The lighting design was
executed by Justin McCarthy and Michael Picariello, whose many hours of hard
work paid off admirably. The play, a drama set in a quiet New Hampshire town,
demonstrates many qualities and tragedies in a small town. Congratulations to this
year's cast and break a leg next year!!

Fall Sports

Of course, no institution is complete without athletic teams to provide both entertain-
ment and the ability to better one's body as well as one's mind. At Stoneham High we
were very fortunate this year to have many winning teams, two of which did better than
ever, reaching new heights which had never before been achieved. Clearly, this was the
year for many of our teams. Even though some fared better than others, they all did well,
proving to all of us that this is a school full of both spirit and talent. After all, who could
ever forget the bonfire pep rally, or the highly decorated girls' locker room. Yes, there
were many seasons to remember.

Bovs Soccer

Sending it Downfield

To be completely honest, our season was not as successful as we
expected it would be. Inconsistent performance plagued us
throughout the season. Although our expectations were not fulfilled,
the team really came together through tough times and put together a
respectable record. This season, we really played some great games
which showed off much of the talent that is on the team. It will be
impossible to forget the last game of the season, when we went
against Reading, who were the Middlesex League Champions this
year. Despite our struggles, it is our hope that next year's team comes
back strongly and does as well as they're obviously capable of.

Girls Soccer

A New Tradition of Winning

The team made history this past year. The girls' soccer team has
never made it to the state tournament, but then again, this really was a
season of firsts. We did suffer from a slow beginning, but once we
started our run there was no stopping us, as we eventually turned out
a 9-7-4 record. Certainly, we had a season that will never be
forgotten. We began as a team and evolved into a family. We earned
a great deal of respect for ourselves and our supporters. It was a great
season, a memorable season, and one that will live in the history
books of Stoneham High forever. Thanks for the memories, and we
wish the very best to next year's team.

Field Hockey

Outstanding In Our Field

Despite a losing record of 4-10-4, the Field Hockey team truly had a
successful season. Our season centered around hard work and strong
teamwork. We learned lessons that carried from the field into life.
Dedication, team spirit, and strong leadership from Co-Captains Gina
Pisari and Jen Scally made our season a real success. The highlight of
the season was most definitely when we beat Reading in the final
game of our season. The game was at home, which made it all the
more special for everybody involved. Finally, after a season of ups
and downs, we felt as if our hard work had finally paid off! We wish
the best of luck to next year's team, and we'd also really like to say:

"1-2-3 DEFENSE!"

Sprinting To Tomorrow 1

The seniors graduated, the freshmen joined the ranks, and the
predictions were made, mainly that the team was doomed to
humiliation beyond understanding. Despite the mass' verdict, we
remained optimistic calculating that with the help of miracles we
would win most of our meets. Those miracles turned out to be
underclassmen. We went on to go 7-2 on the year, capture second in
the freshmen race at the Bay State Invitational and, with our
incredible freshmen team, finish third at the Middlesex League Meet.
Polishing off the season as the third best team in the league, we were
quite satisfied with the team's performance, and happy to have proven
everybody, including ourselves, wrong. All in all, it would have been
difficult to choose a better way to end our running careers.

Despite not winning the Middlesex League Championship this past
season, overall the team was an excellent one and it had a very good
season. The team really pulled together in its victory over Burlingtor
at the league meet. This victory had special meaning to us, since it
was Burlington who had defeated us at the dual meet not too long
before. Thus, we were able to prove to our parents, fans, coaches anc
ourselves that we were the second best team in the Middlesex
League. We certainly hope that next year's team does well.
Hopefully, they will improve upon this year's record and be able to
take home the championship . We wish them the best of luck, and
hope they are able to run well.

Spiking a Way to Victory

We had a fun year, and we had a lot of players with experience.
Even though we didn't do as well as we expected we would, we
played hard and fought for everything we could get. We will always
remember the good games along with the bad games. Though this
wasn't quite the way we would have chosen to end our senior year,
we still can't complain. On the positive side, we did give Lexington a
tough match during their undefeated run. Kristal and Stacey would
both like to wish the 1995-1996 team the very best of luck, hoping
that they'll meet with nothing but victory along the way. They'll have
all but two of the starters they had this year, and they should do quite
well and come out on top!

Playing Through

The Golf team had a season of ups and downs this year. Led by seniors
Sean Wood, Erich Butters, and Bob Murgia, the team turned what
looked like a disappointing season into a successful one by winning
three out of the last four matches. Even though the team's record was
a losing one, there were many pluses. Juniors Jeff Orsillo and Brenden
Connors had splendid years, and sophomores Ryan Davis and Jared
Leone also fared well. Freshmen Brian McCarthy and Joseph Silva
achieved a great deal of success in their first year on the team. With all
these great underclassmen we expect the team to have a strong year in
1995!

"It was a great season. We worked hard,
and it all payed off. Even if the season
wasn 7 everything we wanted, we learned a
great deal, about both ourselves and the
game of golf . " -Sean Wood

Fall Cheerleading

Something to Cheer For

It was a great season. We had a lot of new kids, and these faces
blended well with the verterans we had returning. This year, the
squad broke new grounds when we cheered consistently for female
teams. At the same time, we were able to perform well for winning
teams, adding to the excitement at every game. We had a wonderful
time at our homecoming, entertaining the crowds and the teams. We
reached new heights, going to a Middlesex League competition. We
performed our very best, and gained a respectable placing. We know
that next year's squad will do well, certainly they will wow the crowd
just as well as this year. We wish them well, and hope that everything
goes well for them.

Superbowl Bound

This year, a year of first times, the football team did better then ever
before, fighting their way all the way to the Division II Superbowl
against Acton-Boxborough. It was a difficult beginning, and at times
in the season it seemed as though the team wouldn't make it. They did
though, and went to a Superbowl for the very first time in Stoneham
High School history. While the team certainly deserved a great deal
of the credit, not enough can be said about their dedicated leader.
Coach A1 Lanni. Coach Lanni saw the talent he had, and brought
them as far as they could go, and then beyond. The team hopes that
next year's group does as well, and even better, maybe even winning
the Superbowl.

Homecoming, like the presidential elections, Olympics and leap years, is an exciting
event which takes place only once every four years. We were fortunate to have it fall
during our senior year when enthusiasm runs high. Between the Pep rally on
Wednesday and the parade and Football game on Thursday, it was a two-day gala.
The bright sunny day reflected our excited spirits as we pretended to be in a warmer
climate on our floats-Las Vegas, New Orleans, Miami, and, of course, Houston. The
band motivated us with their well rehearsed, upbeat music. Certainly, the day would
not have been the same without the band, which really impressed us all. The football
game peaked our spirits with a suspenseful and sometimes nervewracking battle
with Reading for the right to play in a Super Bow l. Luckily, the game went well for
us in the end, and we will always remember our homecoming as a day of triumph over
the arch rival Rockets.

His  house  is  in  the  village  though;

He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

Winter Concert

On December 20, 1994 the Spartan Chorale and Band helped to
celebrate a joyous season at the annual winter concert. The Spartan
Chorale, directed by Ms. Kate Thayer, sang a selection of songs
ranging from "Cool Yule" to Handel's "Messiah". A group of soloists
also performed, including seniors D. D'Angelo, I. Judge, A. French,
L. Krakow, and M. Feke. The Spartan Band, led by Mr. Edmund
Grammer, played a number of well known selections including
"Night Flight" by King, the "French Carol", "La Marche Des Rois",
and "Of Pride and Celebration" by Swearingen. The Spartan Chorale
and the Spartan Band blended their talents to perform a memorable
and enjoyable concert.

Dramafest: Drive In

This year the Drama Club’s entry into the Massachusetts High School Drama
Guild's Drama Festival competition did exceptionally well. Drive In. was the first
play in six years to advance beyond preliminaries, making its way to the Bromfield
in Harvard where it was eliminated in Semi-Final competition. However, this was
not before the play garnered many awards. The cast received honors with All-Star
cast awards which went to Jill O'Brien and Chris Feudo in both Preliminaries and
Semi- Finals, and Dennis D'Angelo who won in the Semi-Finals . The set designer,
student Justin McCarthy, won for his design and the crew won for set execution and
set-up and take-down. Unlike past shows, this year's play was directed by Missy
Gerson, a free-lance director who made her Stoneham debut with Drive In. She was
very impressive, considering the success of the play. Good luck to next year’s cast
and crew!

National Honor Society Induction

The National Honor Society Induction on February 1 3, 1 995 was a time to welcome
the new senior and junior members as the present members reflected on the
happenings of the past year. With memories of Town Day’s hair braiding booth, the
doughnut sale, the yard sale, and candy-apple night, the Honor Society will not soon
forget the sweat and time that went into raising funds for the annual scholarship. The
energetic group of students also worked side by side with their peers as tutors, using
their skills while gaining the satisfaction of knowing that they helped another
student. The induction ceremony was enthusiastically supported by parents,
teachers, students, and the present members. The four officers delivered speeches
and presented the honorary membership to Mr. Tom Mayo. The speaker for the
occasion. Dr. Beverly Ballaro, enlightened the students and audience alike with her
insight on achieving true wisdom and realizing one's goals.

Carnival Ball

This year’s Carnival Ball, Fairytale , was one of the best in recent memory. Its
i storyline of class act- created fairytales intertwined with the classics of Hans
Christian Anderson, the Brothers Grimm and various Disney favorites. The Queen
of Carnival Ball, Amy Gebhard, along with the King Jamie Burnham, led a talented
court through the opening waltz and the closing dance. Master of Ceremonies
Michael Picariello lead a talented cast through the maylay of scenes, dances, and live
performances. The script was written by Picariello, director Mr. James Carino, and
Vice-Principal turned Creative Consultant Mr. Ed Russo. The technical direction
was headed by Justin McCarthy, and the Senior Class choreography was largely
lead and inspired by soccer legend turned disco queen Lisa Ferragamo.

Winter Sports

As the winter season arrives, so do the winter sports. As
did many of the teams in the fall, the winter sports teams
fared relatively well. While some records may not com-
pletely reflect all of the hard work put in by many of the
athletes and their coaches, the look on each player's face
n the middle of a game shows just how committed each
ane really was. As we flip through the following pages,
t's important to remember the story that each team tells,
:hrough pictures, all on their own.

Girls y Basketball

This year's season was certainly a season to remember. We shared good
times and bad times, happy times and sad times. We worked very hard
this season. Our determination and desire were evident in both the games
we played and the practices we held. Thanks for all of the memories.
We'll never forget Air Sierra or Sparky Sable. Good luck to all the
seniors next year. Thank you Mr. Marinelli for all of your hard work and

Boys’ Basketball

The 94-95 Spartan boys' hoop team was a very athletic and fun team to
watch. They always played hard and were in every game because of their
tenacious defense. The Spartans were lead by Tom Joyce and Tom Adams,
who established himself as a top player in the league. Bob Scab was the team’s
best rebounder and a team leader. Wes Jaques and Jon Mahoney shared the
starting duties at center and gave the team some rebounding and scoring. Mike
Linstom. Darren Svendsen, and Don Domoretsky gave the team invaluable
minutes off the bench with some scoring and rebounding. Freshman Alonzo
Hoose showed he has the ability needed to play in the league, while Conrad
Hardy and Matt Iascone showed great team support and were always ready
when called upon. The Spartans enjoyed a fun year and established them-
selves as a team to be reckoned with in the future.

Gymnastics

Like many of the other winter sports teams, the gymnastics
team did not have as good a season as they would have liked.
However, the team did come together to have some very good
meets, and they did well to made the season a respectable one.
Some very good freshmen talent promises to make at least the
next four years very productive ones for the gymnastics team.
Thanks to everybody on the team and good luck with next
year's group.

Ice Hockey

The 1 994- 1 995 Stoneham High HOckey Team had a rollercoaster ride
of a season. Early in the season the Spartans posted a six win and two
loss record, and had great reason to hope fora Middlesex ternament birth.
But, in keeping with that rollercoaster ride, the team found themselves
on an unstoppable nose dive. Despite some late sucesses, not all of the
pre-season goals were met. However, the team was able to rebound near
the end of the season and have a respectable year.

Junior Prom

Held at the new Hyatt Harborside near the airport, this year's Junior Prom
certainly lived up to its theme of "Heaven". In a tasteful ballroom setting that
included the musical majesty of The Doctors, who controlled songs at the booth,
and the grinning smiles of three administrators, this year's prom could only be
called a great success. With a fabulous meal (which included actual pieces of
garden in the Garden Salad) and an excellent dessert, we were ready to dance the
night away as one half kicked off their heels and the other half unbuttoned their
collars. It was a wild time and an evening that left you wondering how it could
ever be topped. Yet, we all wait in gleeful anticipation, fully conscious of the
fact that this year's Junior Prom was just a preview for the glorious night to come.
Yes, it was simply a peek into what our crowning moment, the Senior Prom, will
be like. The Junior Prom was a fabulous time, and not one which anybody will
soon forget.

was that cool March night. While snow still covered the ground outside, nothing
but anxious and excited feet covered the dance floor inside. With recollections of
our Freshman Semi-Formal well behind us, we all crowded into the school for a
glorious night. Aided by creative disc jockeying by Erich Butters and even more
creative dancing by everybody else, the Semi-Formal was a huge success, almost
doubling the number of couples that had gone the year before. With Disney
characters gracing the walls, a giant Jack-in-the-Box gracing the entrance, and
decked out couples gracing the Cafe, it's no wonder that our Semi-Formal was
such a memorable one. Indeed, on such a cold night only the wannest of
memories float back into our minds as we look back upon our younger
Sophomore days.

Spring Musical

Last year's musical, "The Sound of Music ”, was one of the more successful
musicals in recent years. Written by the famous pair, Rogers and Hammerstein,
the show went up in early May to the applause of hundreds. So successful was
the show that it was commissioned to travel to both Robin Hood and Central
School to perform a shortened version for the elementary students. Starring in
the musical was graduate Jerelyn McNaughb who played the part of Maria.
Playing opposite her was senior Dennis D'Angelo, who took the part of Capt.
Von Trapp. Other seniors who starred in the show were Laura Krakow, as the
eldest daughter Lisel, and Brant Berglund who played Lisel's love interest, Rolf.
Playing the maternal role of Mother Superior, Marci Iovanni astonished the
crowd with her breathtaking rendition of "Climb Every Mountain". Senior Ian
M. Judge was excellent as the frightening Nazi captain. The group did very well
under the direction of Beth Zieff and the vocal coaching of Ben Youngman. The
best of luck to next year's cast and crew!!!

Spring Sports

Spring is in the air and the Stoneham athletes take to the fields once
again, which, unfortunately, are covered with melting snow. However,
spring fever runs high as yet another successful sports season begins.
The runners are back on the thawing roads, and the baseball and softball
players patiently wait to dig their cleats back into the dirt. Tennis players
are eager to hit the courts, but they must first shovel them off. All are
ready to work hard and receive the triumphs with the losses and the
laughter with the tears. Team spirit will run rampant once again as all
athletes find themselves with a new family of teammates and coaches.
Good luck to all spring athletes, it won't be long before you enjoy the
warm spring sun again.

Four All Seasons

As we look back upon four years and four seasons, we come to this section. Four All Seasons,
in which we look upon those images which transcend all four years. Those images that will last
forever in our minds are perserved here in our yearbook. As we glance upon our senior portraits
and read each other's quotes, we keep with us a constant reminder of both who we were and who
our class was. As we read over our superlatives, we can think back to those members of the class
that really stood out in our minds. And then, of course, we turn to the friends pages, so that we
might never forget our friends and the wonderful times that we've shared together. At last, we see
the couples pages, and we can look back to our days of young love and affection, remembering
our high school sweethearts. We go across the seasons, across the years, and think about our four
years here at Stoneham High, Four All Seasons.

Underclassmen

There are gains for all our losses,

There  are  balms  for  all  our  pain;
*

But when youth, the dream, departs.

It takes something from our hearts,
And it never comes again.”

Youth” by Richard

Faculty and Staff

Throughout our last four years, we have all been touched by adult members of the Faculty and Staff.
They are, indeed, our teachers, our educators, and while we often found their lessons hard to understand and
thought their meanings unclear, it is obvious to us now what it was so many of them were really saying.
Indeed, many of their greatest teachings were never even delivered in the classroom but rather on the playing
field and in the theater, the band room and in the library. It was their life lessons that will stay with us for-
ever, those lessons that were never recorded in a notebook and whose answers were never checked in a test.
We learned from our teachers many facts, figures, and laws which govern life. While we prepare to enter the
future, we cannot forget our past and that includes our teachers, our mentors, and, in many cases, our coaches
and friends.

Clubs and Activities

J

When the bell rings at 2: 34 and everybody reaches that point in the day when they want
to go home, very few of them actually do. Many go to their extra-curriculars, their own
individual clubs and activities. Such organizations give the school variety and character.
Thus, we're entertained by the Drama Club, the Band and the Chorale, we're informed by
SADD, and harassed to buy T-shirts by POWER. Our students reach out to other students
through Peer Leadership, Peer Mediating, and Peer Counseling. Whether your love be art
or language, journalism or math, there is a club for you, as this section clearly points out.

Seniors of 1995

Remembrance is the real reason behind any yearbook, and ours is no different. As we come
to this section, we are reminded of who we are, and, more importantly, years from now we
may all remember who we were. The makeup of our class, its own unique personality, is best
defined in the following pages. While it's important to every member of the school, the ones
most memorable to us will most certainly be each other, the Class of 1995. So we embark on
the Senior Section of the yearbook, that part of the book which allows us to remember each
other without distractions, remember the most friendly, the most likely to be famous, the most
likely to succeed. It was an interesting four years, as evidenced by this section.
